The purpose-built beach resort of Icmeler is set on the southeast coast of Turkey where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean. Icmeler has a noticeable European flavour, with luxury yachts and a cosmopolitan feel with the rich and famous drinking cocktails at the chic sea-front bars.
Unlike its neighbour, Marmaris just a few miles south, Icmeler has a relaxed village atmosphere, whilst not ignoring the modern amenities. The resort is incredible clean and well maintained, from its regularly raked shingly sand beaches to its litter-free promenade and beautiful gardens.
There are plenty of places to go shopping in Icmeler, the central shopping mall is fully equipped with your basic essentials and souvenirs and also very popular with tourists and locals is the market each Wednesday which sells fruit and veg, local crafts, shoes and much more and will give you the opportunity to find a bargain and test your haggling skills. If you are looking for a more thorough shopping trip, you can travel to nearby Marmaris which has an abundance of shops to suit all needs.
Icmeler boasts plenty of delicious places to eat, and offers local specialities such as Guvec, clay-pot casserole, or tasty kebabs which can be washed down with some Turkish wine or raki, the traditional aniseed spirit. A popular restaurant for Turkish cuisine is the Turkish House in Turunc Road where the food is served up to the tune of traditional music.
Icmeler is not a clubbing resort, but there are plenty of pubs with a lively atmosphere which stay open until the early hours. If you are looking for a busy nightlife then Marmaris is only a short taxi ride away and has popular nightclubs and pubs. Icmeler's only true nightclub, Abone, provides for those who enjoy a dance, and some of the bars have discos, karaoke and live shows.
